It is often assumed that filter coffee is ground coffee and that espresso are beans, this is not the case.
The word filter or espresso reffers to the way of roasting a certain coffee for a specific brewing methode. Want to know more? Check out our brewing page!
All brews in which water is poured over coffee grounds and gravity does its work are considered filter brews. The most commonly known and used ways of brewing are Automatic Coffee Drip, V60, Chemex and French Press, ideal for a slow weekend morning, or an afternoon in the office. The water stays in contact with the coarsely ground coffee for a longer while, giving it enough time to release its flavours and oils. That is why it is often characterized as a mild bodied, but complex and flavoursome drink.
We talk about espresso when nearly boiling water is forced through a compact amount of finely ground coffee. The pressure under which this coffee is made creates a creamy and full bodied taste. So if you like it strong, you are probably an espresso lover! A manual, semi- automatic or a fully automatic machine, or a Moka Pot are the most common ways to make an espresso coffee. This also forms the base for some of our favourite milky drinks like cappuccino, latte or latte macchiato.
We only sell whole coffee beans in our web shop (with exception of our limited coffee taste box!). The coffee bean is less fragile, it will better preserve its flavour and aroma in our special valved bags, this will give you the best quality when brewing your coffee at home.
