A collaboration between KU Leuven, Plant Institute, Plantentuin Meise and Onan Coffee & Tea, with support of University of Jimma, Departement Omgeving.

In February 2026, Onan Coffee & Tea and its Direct Trade farmers launched a special anniversary blend to celebrate KU Leuven’s 600 years of innovation and its groundbreaking contributions to coffee research. The blend proved so popular that it earned a lasting place in our range and now continues as the KU Leuven Blend.

From preserving the genetic diversity of wild Arabica in Ethiopia to supporting innovative and sustainable coffee production in Brazil, KU Leuven researchers and partners are working together to help secure the future of coffee. This exclusive blend brings together coffees from Ethiopia and Brazil, each connected to projects that combine scientific research, biodiversity, and long-term sustainability.

A flavourful example of passion, innovation, and collaboration, the KU Leuven Blend transforms present-day knowledge into future possibilities, helping ensure a resilient coffee sector for generations to come.
